It’s WYGF competition time!

Now we are officially in the year of WYGF we are really excited to announce the launch of our WYGF competition. What started off life as a Gary Ryan competition, offering our students the chance to win an individual lesson with Gary at the festival as well as loads of ‘Gary Goodies’ (no, these are not his own range of organic biscuits in the shape of a guitar, but a bundle of CDs and fab guitar-prizes) has now mutated into something even more wondrous, with not one, not two, but five competitions featuring Vincent Lindsey-Clark, Peter Nuttall and even yours truly. I can tell you’re all desperate to know exactly how you are going to have a chance of getting your mitts on all of this – so here’s how you do it.

We would like you to upload videos of yourselves playing any of the following pieces to our YouTube WYGF channel and then the composers themselves will be selecting three finalists in each category who will each have their video performances shown at WYGF09 in front of our grand jury.  The prizes will be an individual lesson with the composer and a WYGF goodie bag.

So, the set-pieces are:

  • Gary Ryan: Russian Bear – Trinity Guildhall Grade 3
  • Helen Sanderson: West Coast – Trinity Guildhall Grade 4
  • Vincent Lindsey-Clark: Cycles in the Avenue – Trinity Guildhall Grade 6
  • Gary Ryan: Rondo Rodeo – Trinity Guildhall Grade 8

And here’s our step-by-step guide to uploading your competition entry.

  1. Make your video
  2. Upload it to your own YouTube account. If you haven’t got one already you can create one especially for the occasion.
  3. Once your video is ‘live’ then SUBSCRIBE to the WYGF TV channel at http://uk.youtube.com/WYGF09
  4. Link your video clip to the channel and we will be featuring some of the best performances in our WYGF blog.
  5. Don’t forget to become a WYGF TV friend as well!

You can also click on the clip below to go straight to our site. The only rules are that you need to be attending the 2009 festival (and therefore within the WYGF age limit) and you can only enter one category. The deadline for submissions is 1st July 2009 so get practicing! Good Luck!
